I think this particular render (2D mandelbrot zoom) will finish in about a months time. It has already been rendering 24/7 for a month. I just wanted to also let you all know that more fractal material is on the way, I know this blog has been quiet for a while but things are going to start speeding up around here soon.

The zoom that is being rendered is inspired by this zoom

Also teamfresh has put together a pack of 8 2D & 3D HD fractal animations that have no watermarks or audio. The animations are royalty free and you are free to use them for any purpose commercial or otherwise.
you can download the files individually or you can download them in a multipack here

I will be creating more 3D fractal trips soon. Some more mandelbox and some others that i have been playing with.

fractal anti aliasing

Take a look at the two small monotone Mandelbrot fractal sets below. They are identical – apart from the fact that the set on the left is aliased and the set on the right is anti-aliased. When fractal images are aliased – they look scratchy and you can see a lot of noise over the image. Aliasing comes about because the edge of the fractal is infinite, but the screen has a finite amount of pixels with which to represent it.

anti aliasing
Below are the same two mandelbrot fractal sets magnified by around 800% At this level of magnification you can see each individual pixel clearly. When the fractal is calculated, each pixel has to be either inside the fractal set (black) or outside the fractal set (white) Even though some of the pixels contain both the inside, and the outside of the fractal. This is what causes aliasing.

anti aliasing

When the fractal image is anti-aliased, each pixel that contains both the inside and the outside of the fractal – is shaded between the two colours – according to how much of the inside and outside it contains. This removes aliasing. Although it is impossible to remove aliasing all together, anti-aliasing a fractal image greatly improves its quality. Take a look at the full colour example below.

Before the late Benoit Mandelbrot, the idea of measuring the exquisitely irregular and fragmented roughness of nature was an idle dream. Today, thanks to fractal geometry, it’s a reality. Revealing the hidden order in what was once perceived as unpredictable and chaotic, it has greatly improved our understanding of everything from biological rhythms to economics.

The Fractalist, the memoir Mandelbrot completed shortly before his death, deepens our understanding of this mathematical maverick’s extraordinary mind. Beginning with his early years in Warsaw, it then chronicles his days in Paris as he stayed ahead of the Nazis while studying geometry on his own. From there, we follow his meandering education at Caltech, Princeton, and MIT; his courtship of eventual wife Aliette; and his relationship with such contemporaries as Jean Piaget, Mark Kac, and Willy Feller. Ultimately, we get Mandelbrot’s fascinating account of how he discovered patterns in a wide range of phenomena—from irregularly shaped coastlines to the distribution of galaxies. This, of course, was the birth of fractal geometry, and seeing Mandelbrot’s perspective as he developed it makes this memoir as inspiring as it is enlightening.

If you are like me then you like having your imagination stretched in new ways. I heard the other day that the current top ten films were all sequels or remakes! This kind of mindless generic consumerist media does not do it for me. Whilst I watch Hollywood burn I often put my nose in a good book.

As luck would have it I had the opportunity to read a book written by one of my clients. I say as luck would have it because it was such a good read. I don’t want to spoil it by giving too much away, but take it from me it is an exciting journey indeed. – multi layered and complex yet succinct plot lining, containing a plethora of universes and beings, with new experiences which you have yet to feel. Its called “The Bend in the sky” and its now available from Amazon here…

If you want it in digital format for your kindle it is also available from Amazon here…

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and now I know what I want for Christmas! a Mech-Beast, time travel and love!! bring it on.

A decent stereo/headphones are seriously recommended
for this deep tech house sound.

The final magnification of the Mandelbrot fractal is 2.892e+222 (2^739)

“Apollo in 1969. Shuttle in 1981. Nothing in 2011. Our space program would look awesome to anyone living backwards through time.”

– Neil deGrasse Tyson

Three space enthusiasts, inspired by the 50-year anniversary of John Glenn’s orbit of the earth, launched a weather balloon with a message to the entire world:

Now is the time for us to go back into space.

Constructed largely of PVC pipe and attached with two GoPro cameras aimed at an iPhone— playing a looping video-collage of quotes and images from man’s stunted odyssey to the stars — their DIY message-in-a-bottle-from-space has had at least one receptive audience member:

the director’s girlfriend.

Watch the main video to get inspired by their message, and visit the source to watch their behind the scenes video to see what may be the first marriage proposal from space.

Now is the time.

I recommend visiting the source and sharing their content to help spread their message.
